Good book for experienced developers

It starts right from the very beginning where most Big Data books start from. The 3/5 Vs of Big Data, which is helpful for the beginner but might give a very mechanical feel to who already have been around the buzz a bit because it does not offer something different that you might not find elsewhere.Terminology, definitions, acronyms are explained in a very insipid and monotonous way. It could have been more interesting by not just stating stuff but explaining or giving analogies in a better way.

Every subtopic being point-wise does help in maintaining a flow and remembering stuff easily. The structure and the flow of the entire book is very logical and intuitive.
After introducing the concepts this book takes on the enterprise implementation of big-data problems/analytics. It focuses on getting the user acquainted with tools like Storm, Spark, Amazon kinesis and other skills required to quickly design, implement and deploy real-time solutions to big-data problems.

Over all, this book focus on implementation and not in-depth conceptual paradigms of Big Data. It is not recommended for explorers or deep-divers because it wont give you much understanding but simply helps you in knowing some tools in order to start implementing the solutions. A bit of background is needed in implementation and visualizing the problems before you take up this book. Else one can be lost in the whys and hows of it.

However, for a bit experienced developers this is handy to get going with the tools and sample implementation of solutions supported with codebase.

I Almost LOVE This Book - 4.5 Stars

It explains so much! I always wondered why there were "states" as opposed to just America. Why are we the "United States" of America? This book goes into great detail to answer that question. (Should I give away the answer or should I make you read it, or perhaps you already know?) Also, I wondered how could marijuana be both legal in some states and illegal federally. Having read the book - the proverbial lightbulb came on.

Bonuses: this book includes the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and some of the Federalist papers in the appendices.

Yes, at times this book was dry, but I actually felt inspired and even captivated while reading some of its passages. I never thought I would be one to like history, but this book gives a great foundation of our government and why it is the way it is.

The book also points you to a free supplemental website that has vocabulary and quizzes. I enjoyed taking the quizzes because it let me know what I needed to focus on when I got some answers wrong, which helped for my exams.

I rented this book on Kindle for just under $20. I might actually buy the Kindle version, or a hardcopy version, because it is so foundational. I (almost) love this book! Even with the author's biases and all. (The author can be quite sarcastic at times in his critiques of both parties and "the system", which gives the book personality.) 4.5 stars!

Great Textbook for an American Government Class

I've used Jillson's textbook in the online classes that I have taught. This American Government textbook is unique because Jillson uses history to show how our political system has changed over time. This is important because most students tend to think that the way government works today is how it worked in 1789; that is simply not the case. Our institutions are the same but their levels of strength have fluctuated since then. I would recommend that potential purchasers read the reviews for the 6th edition of the textbook on this site (http://www.amazon.com/American-Government-Political-Development-Institutional/product-reviews/0415881579/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1). The 7th edition is not that much different from the 6th. the only major differences is that it covers the 2012 election and President Obama's entire first term.

Instructors: If you order an exam copy of the book from Routledge ([...]) the company will give you access to Instructor's Manuals and Sample PowerPoint slides for each chapter in the textbook. These materials have been very helpful to me when I teach my classes.

This book explains everything and is super easy to read

I read this book the most out of all my college textbooks. This book explains everything and is super easy to read. I would highly recommend this for a government 100 class! It's a great study aide since it goes over all the concepts. My teacher pulled her test questions out of this which is why it was so helpful for that class, but despite this, it does a great job at explaining concepts. The book itself is really flimsy though and seems fragile so there's a lot of wear and tear on mine.....The resale value seems to be decent ($20?), but it's fine because I got a lot of use out of it. Definitely recommend as a study aide!

�This is an update of a comprehensive reference for clinicians to use to give advice to their patients. The previous edition was published in 2005.

�As outlined in the preface, the purpose is to provide prepared printed material for patients and their families when they are most motivated to learn. The author has picked 432 of the most common disorders (with an additional 100+ on an affiliated web site) and has systematically produced a well-written set of instructions.

�The audience is expansive and includes every clinician, nurse, primary care practitioner, and emergency room provider, in fact, anyone who may be in a position to interact with patients.

�Each section includes the basic information on the topic, how the diagnosis is made, and what treatment is generally used, with additional references that a layperson may access, and, equally important, when to notify a physician if symptoms of a complication are appearing. The sections are well written and easy to understand.

�This is a very valuable tool, particularly with the ability to access, download, and print the instructions for patient use. I highly recommend this compilation for every primary care library.

Not Just Another Singles Book Author!

Having been single by choice for the majority of my adult life, I've probably read a couple of hundred books on the subject, so you could say I'm a bit of an expert when it comes to the subject! Having said that, I absolutely have to take this opportunity to spread the word LaVonia Tryon's book "Not Another Singles Book." Within the first few minutes of reading this book, you'll agree that a book's title has never described a book's content more accurately. Instead of blurting insincere cliches at the reader, Tryon uses her own life as an example, assuring her readers she's in the trenches alongside us as we struggle in this war of trying to maintain our self-worth in the midst of a lifestyle of singleness that can just be downright heartbreaking at times. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all the singles who are sick of the cliches, desiring to redeem their single years and not waste them, and are seeking a different approach to singleness that is sure to leave them filled with hope, ready to become the kind of people with whom they'd fall in love.

Being single again for the past 4 years after a 26 year marriage, I have read a lot of singles books. Obviously I don't know how to do this..I need help. This book definitely lives up to its title. Reading this book has changed my attitude toward my singleness. The fact that it is backed up by scripture and filled with bible references, puts a whole new perspective on being single. I know now I've been doing it all wrong. Thank you for showing me the way through this book. I'm excited about the present and the future. Thank you LaVonia, your book has been a blessing to me.

This book is truly amazing and has opened up my eyes to what it means to be a single woman in Christ. In the book, Lavonia goes through the different stages of what singles of today's society go through and than how to deal with it and look at it from gods perspective. She has really taken the time to back up what she is trying to say with scripture and then adding her own testimony to encourage others.
I have learned how to make the most out of my singleness instead of others trying to teach me how to get out of it.
